I've been capturing video at my church using a Panasonic PVGS400 by fire wire using WinDV. The camera was set on 12bit. I was also using Cubase to capture audio from a Mackie analog sound board. The sample rate was set at 32K. Everything was fine because I could sync the audio to the video in Premiere quite easily.

I recently purchased a Presonus Firebox to capture the audio. The minimum sample rate is 48K. So I set the Panny to 16bit. However, when I try to sync up the video and audio in Premiere, they won't stay in synch. I check the properties and they both are at the 48K sample rate, but they still drift. How can I fix this problem? Is there a setting in WinDV that I have to change when I go from 12bit to 16bit?

I'm not really familiar with the equipment you are using, but have a little knowledge about sync problems. If you are saying the video drifts out of sync more towards the end of the file, then the audio and video lengths are probably different. If so, that may be caused by the sample rate differences. Can you check the length of the video and audio? Try VirtualDub Mod for that.

If the sync was off by the same amount throughout the video, then it's a problem with the 'offset' timing of the the audio compared to the video. Change the offset to adjust the sync.

WinDV just passes the DV stream on, it shouldn't modify it. The problem is likely elsewhere.

Someone here more familiar with audio and sample rates may be more help, sorry.

Thats some thing for me to check. But to be clear. I have 2 audio files in my project. One audio came through WinDV and the other was captured through Cubase. They were both done at 48K and 16bit. Is there a setting on WinDV for 16 bit?

No settings on WinDV for that. As stated, WinDV is just a passthrough program. It doesn't change bitrates or much of anything. You can select Type 1 or Type 2, that's about it.
