  1. Hi, Newbie trying to get with the times!!!
    I have the 5g 30gb ipod video but i have a problem.
After getting video onto my ipod picture is crisp and clear and the sound is fine, however after around five mins of footage the sound goes out of sync (infront of the video) this can be rectified by ffw about 1 mins worth and all is good for another 5 mins untill the same happens again. Can anyone spot the probem please?

What kind of video formats are you converting from (in other words, AVI/MPEG/etc., and what codecs they use - probably a good idea to see what the latest (beta) version of GSpot tells you about them (Assuming you're using a PC, of course.). If you post a screenshot from GSpot, be sure to blank the filenames.), and what software are you using to convert them?

I'd probably start by guessing that the problem videos are AVIs with VBR audio, which tends to give a number of converters fits.

  3. Ok thanks for that reply ..its avi to mpg4 using imtoo freeware.
I think you might be correct in pointing the finger at the converter but im am just experimenting at the moment (new toy etc) and im not even sure i will use the video feature to any great degree, any pointers as to what would be a good one to use will be appreciated bearing in mind i have zero experience.
    All input is greatfully received.

I've used Videora iPod converter to transcode MPEG2s from my Hauppauge USB2 PVR with pretty good results. Videora is also free.

But, I didn't really point any fingers at the converter. I just made a guess that if the videos you're attempting to convert do indeed use VBR audio, they might cause problems with some (or more than that) converters.

imtoo freeware? I've been looking around their site for a bit, just now, and I think I've only seen commercial products, there. Is it something that was freeware in the past but is now commercial?

Another program you can try is SUPER. (Just make sure to select the iPod profile under the first option before you convert. ^_^) It's worked fine for converting videos for my sister's iPod (alas, I only have my old 4G... ).

  7. Thanks for all your help guys, i now have quite a few things to try, its gonna take a while to see which works best for me, but i will get back to you with the results. The imtoo converter may have bee a free trial rather than freeware (sorry) a friend of mine sent me the link not sure where he got it from but i can ask him if you like.
    Once again thanks a million
