i've been using it for a while but i've noticed that alot of file types are goofy with it. alot of times i'll find that the video does not have sound after it is rendered, sometimes the sounds looses chuncks and moves around, and sometimes the file won't export in to begin with. So I try to use WinAvi to convert the file into a format that premiere will use, but that takes a while and sometimes it still messes up. which got me to wondering, Windows Media Player can use codecs to play videos, so maybe there are some that premiere can use. so i looked around but didn't have any luck. So does anybody know of any, or anything that might be able to help me out. Thanks in advance.

Where are your files coming from. Are they perhaps downloads? If you download files, you have no idea how they were compressed, what format they are in, or how the audio was encoded. It is very likely that your sound files are in the wrong format. Try running GSPOT to get information about the files.

If you are transferring from your camera via the Plextor, it would be best to set up Premiere to capture it as a DV-AVI file. Then you can either edit it, or simply encode and author to a dvd with no problems. Make sure you have your project settings set up correctly. You want to save your audio as AC3 48hz. I have used Premiere 6.5 a few times for video/audio, and had problems until I got my project settings set correctly. Now, no problems. But now I mostly use Vegas 5, as I find the interface for editing much easier for me.

Define your camera. Is this a still or video camera?

Also what are you encoding to with the Plextor? MPeg2? MPeg4?

Premiere is not a native MPeg editor. Everthing that is processed needs decompression or conversion to a natively supported format like DV or HDV.

The Plextor ConvertX has no natively compatible format for Premiere. Conversion will be required usless you shell out for the $250 Mainconcept MPeg2 edit add-in to Premiere pro http://www.mainconcept.com/mpeg_pro.shtml
or use another MPeg native editor.
