  1. Can someone tell me is it better to use a dv cable to record videos on this machine or could i use the s video input instead.I dont have a dv cable but my jvc camcorder has a s video connection so im wondering which is better.

    If you are outputting from your camcorder and it has DV out, definitely use that. The DV video is downgraded to convert to S-video.

  3. Is the quality downgraded by much.Are the dv cables from my jvc camcorder to the pioneer recorder common.Where can i buy them and are there different qualites of cable.

  4. Yes it is a four pin cable,are these cables called firewire 1394 Ieee cables .

  5. In the case of the 533H, it will not make much difference. Gshelley61 did captures from DV and s-video input for a test on this thread with the 533H,

    Regrettably the 533H turns in a subpar performance from DV input.

    One of the nice things about the DV capture is that the Pioneer automatically places a chapter marker at each time code break (such as when you stopped or paused your recording). One nice thing about capturing via the S-video is you can use the Pioneer's custom video settings and you also can capture the date/time display from the tape (if you want that).
