    I have a few files that i've download, and some that i've captured in 5.1 that say its only in stereo (when checked in Media Player Classic, or graphedit), yet they output the full 5.1 sound. I even check them in VirtualDub and the same result, showing as 2ch. Is there a reason for this?

    What does tell you they are 5.1, other than the fact you get sound from every speaker ? Dolby Pro Logic and Pro Logic II are designed to push audio out of every channel when given a 2 channel source.

    What are you playing them back on ?

    MPC. I get discrete audio out of the center channel. If I demux the ac3 stream in vdub mod, it then shows as 6ch.
