Hi, I'm real new to this DVD burnning stuff and I need some clarification on why things are happening.

Ok first I have an AVI file on my PC (movie runs for about 40 min).
On my PC the file (AVI) has a size of 349 MB, but when I try to "burn" it on a DVD the size increases to 3Gbs -- Why is that?

I also converted this file to a DVD file using "Winavi", this also produces a file over 3 Gb in size - What is going on or what am I missing?

Can anybody explain this to me? Or maybe somebody can tell me how to save my "file" (but have the same quality) in a smaller format.

    Thanks for your time.

The size of the AVI has very little relationship with the size of the MPEG-2 encoded from it. The encoded size is based on the running time and the bitrate used. There are bitrate calculators in 'Tools' to the left so you can set the bitrate and the MPEG size. <<<<<<

And I personally don't recommend WinAVI for AVI>DVD conversions. ConvertXToDVD does a better job, IMO. There is a freeware version of it in tools, if you want to try it.

If you want better quality and more control of AVI>DVD conversion, or encoding, use a standalone encoder and authoring software. The All-in-One converters are limited in what they can do.

    And welcome to our forums.
