how do i extract only the video out of an .avi?

as my topic states, i need to find a way to extract only the video stream out of an avi. is there any way i can do that?

off topic: i seem to have problems getting easy realmedia producer to convert avi's muxed by avimux gui. does anyone else have this problem?

Try avi2raw from MPEG4ip. Could also use mencoder with -nosound -of rawvideo.

Open the file in virtualdub mod and chose save as... that will only process the video.

You would need to disable all the audio streams first and it still won't give you just the video stream. It will give you the video stream wrapped in an avi container.

AVIMuxGUI supports some avi features that aren't supported by all avi splitters including the Microsoft one, this despite the fact that MS wrote the avi specs that AVIMuxGUI follows. Try loading one of the standalone profiles. This should give you compatibility with all avi splitters.
