I am sorry in advance if this is in the wrong place but I am not sure wether it is a problem with my writer, the discs or my standalone player.

I have had a Pioneer DVR-110D writer for a week now and
have had no problems burning discs so far (touch wood), I have
been and putting six xvid or divx movies per disc burned at 4x in Nero, these discs are PC line brand from dixons.

Now while the movies do play in my wharfedale dvd3210dvx standalone divx dvd player, Every movie on Every disc will stop at some point, the movie files themselves have no errors, I am thinking that these cheap discs are the problem, they are rated as 8x but nero will only burn them at 4x, I have also tried at 2x but still have the same problem.

Also all of the movies I have tried have been compressed with different codecs ETC. so I know that is'nt the problem, I have burned 10 discs with 6 movies on each at 2x and 4x.

So is it the writer or my player that doesn't like the media?

Real name of media and info:

I am not sure if your recorded is supported, but you can try for free a tool named KProbe.
That will give you an idea of low-level errors on disks.
Download it from the net and try it.
If it works you should get 2 graphs, about PI and PO errors.

If larger areas of your disk exceed 300 PI and/or 32 PO, then your disk is going to be read with much difficulty from some DVD players.

I do not know about CMC disks, but if you want DVD+R of good quality at decent price, RICOH is your best choice.

To help identify the problem, I would first try a different media, preferably, a name brand media.

This is mostly a matter of trial and error, but you need to find a brand/type of media that is compatible with BOTH your burner and your standalone.

The fact that your burner doesn't recognize the disc properly, could just be a matter of upgrading your firmware.

With that in mind, it is always a good idea to get things to work properly with quality media first. Then you have a baseline to judge different brands/types of media, especially if you wish to go with "value" media. In my experience, the cost savings does not justify the time and frustration of bad burns.

  4. Use MPEG4Modifier to check for GMC and QPEL which most players don't support.

To verify which types of files you standalones will play burn and use the dvix test cd here: https://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers

  6. It's been recalled!

I had problems with it - really bad problems. It would throw up a black screen at random when playing DivX and Xvid files which played perfectly on my home P.C.

I rang the Argos helpline and was told it had been recalled. I took it back with the receipt and they gave me a full refund. If you didn't keep the receipt, point out that it's an Argos-exclusive item and only appeared in their catalogue a few months ago. The Wharfdale model is no longer on the Argos website.

With my refund, I bought the Chili "Style 630-X" from Maplin and I haven't looked back. It plays anything. If you put a saucepan lid in it, it'd probably give you gravy.

    Hi guys

Thanks for your replies, strangely enough I have burned a few movies to CDRs which it has no problems playing, but yeah I think I'll take it back, I haven't got the box but they will just have to deal with it.
