I am not sure what the exact problem is but I cannot play DVDs on Windows Media Player.

I have DScaler installed which I think should be able to decode MPEG-2 video (Unless I'm wrong).

Can anybody tell me what I need to play DVDs in WMP?

I have windows media player 11 on my vista pc and it plays dvd right out of the box.

Also try mediaplayerclassic or vlc. Both should handle dvds just fine and are both free.

Maybe I should try reinstalling WMP.

And I know about those other players, but I prefer WMP.

How do I uninstall WMP in Vista?

I don't think you can uninstall. Why don't you try upgrading it through the player itself? I don't know where the option is but there's got to be something. Also check the web for dvd plugins for windowsmediaplayer.

I have WMP9 running under XP service pack 2, and it has never had
any difficulty to play back DVD-Video. But I am aware that there exist
many factors that can affect WMP's functionality.

And I know about those other players, but I prefer WMP.
So be it. WMP is heavy, slow, and unreliable. Not good to inform about
aspect ratios, framerates, bitrates, codecs, but excelllent to inform about
licensing terms, DRMs, and similar garbage.
