  1. Does anyone know if it is possible to move between these formats? I have an mkv file which is reporting V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC as one of the tracks. The file plays just fine in media player classic however, I cannot convert the video. Checked the howtos and didn't see anything thre either. Help?

What have you tried (so we don't suggest options you have already used) ?

  3. So far, I've tried splitting the file in MKVExtract, which gives me an mpeg file and some other stuff(subtitles). It won't open at all in virtualdubmod, tmpegenc, canopus, riverpast, etc. It WILL actually play with sound and subtitles if I open it up in media player classic.

MKVExtract should give you a raw (.264) AVC stream. If you want to open it (the mkv) in VirtualDub, try AVISynth with directshowsource().
