Just wondering, does anyone know of a good program to convert x264 to xvid or divx?

ffmpegx, mpeg streamclip
And I'm moving you to our Mac OS section. -
First, make sure you have the DIVX 6.5 Codecs installed.
Perian will allow you to decode xvid/divx, but not encode into it.
Second, I'm assuming the h.264 file is an mpeg-4 video?
if so open it with MpegStreamclip.
Third, then export as an .avi file, and select the DIVX 6.5 codec as the
codec type.
alternately, I would just do this in Visual Hub myself...."Everyone has to learn, so that they can one day teach."

when i try to put the mkv(x264) file into streamclip, it says file type not supported, is there something i need to do first?
-
I don't think MpegStreamclip can handle mkv files. I used VisualHub a while back to convert an .mkv file to .avi. Or you could use mokgvm2dvd
-
yes, .mkv, even with Perian installed, will not fully load
the contents to display the file (a requirement of .mkv files)
in MpegStreamclip.
Instead, Quicktime Pro directly, or do as Levina said and use
mokgvm2DVD or Visual hub."Everyone has to learn, so that they can one day teach."

is there a way to get mokgvm2DVD to preserve the original aspect ratio? i did a test convert of the first 500 seconds of of a movie which has pretty wide aspect ratio, definitely wider than 16:9, but after it was done, it "squooshed" the video into something around a 16:9 ratio... any suggestions?

well i think i at least see the problem, when i open the original video in VLC, it says the resolution is 960x544 when its really 1280x544, so i guess what mokgvm2DVD is doing is converting the original video to xvid at 960x544 resolution.
Is there a way to change the video information to say 1280x544 or let mokgvm2DVD know that its really that, its weird that even VLC shows it as 960x544 when it is not. -
Use Quicktime Pro with Perian 1.1 installed.
Open it in Quicktime Pro, and have QT PRo
upon export to .mov, preserve the aspect ratio."Everyone has to learn, so that they can one day teach."

Which option did you choose to convert you file? For if you convert choosing the 2-pass option then the resolution should stay the same as the original.
