    hi guys

which codec offers high video bit rates? x264 or xvid?

    Er - both ?

Don't understand the question, and I'm not sure you know what you are asking.

Both are capable of encoding at high bitrates. High bitrates equals larger files.

H264 (x264 is an encoder, h264 is the encoding method or codec) is capable of better compression for the same quality as Divx, so you can have a smaller file for the same quality, or a better image quality for the same size.

    oh sorry for my english
i mean in xvid you can adjust the mbps to a max limit of 10k(10mbps quantitizer 1 for large file)

what about the x264 can also adjust the bit rate as high as xvid?

Have never tried to push either that high. Can't think of a need to, frankly. Doesn't cost you anything to install it and try it out on a sample clip.

  5. I did quick test encode of a NTSC DV file with x264 set at constant quantizer of 0 and it came out to an average bitrate of over 50000 kbps. I also able to create a CBR 50000 kbps file (using a min quantizer of 0).

If you want really high bitrates simply for the sake of having high bitrates turn off B and P frames and use only I frames.

But this quest for high bitrates makes no sense.

    hi jagabo
pls can you show me what exactly you do in maximizing the bitrates in x264?
if you have the time to show in scan it would be nice, tnx a lot
im clueless about the x264 program,i only read a little about x264 can do but havent tryit in actual

  7. I did the experiment with a VFW version of x264 and VirtualDub. Using constant quantizer mode just select "Single Pass - Quantizer" and set the quantizer to 0:

In constant quantizer mode you are telling the encoder to use whatever bitrate is necessary at each frame to maintain the requested quality. You don't know beforehand what the bitrate will turn out to be.

I encoded a short 1920x1080 29.97 fps clip with constant quantizer 0 and the bitrate turned out to be 200000 kbps. Yes, that's two hundred thousand kbps.

In "Single/Multi Pass - Bitrate" modes just type in the bitrate you want:

And set the minimum quantizer to 0:

If you want really high bitrates just save without any compression.

  8. my question is,
    is better xvid than x264?
which one is the best in quality/weight

  9. x264 is better.

  10. so x264 its the equivalent of h264,
i know the h264 is most better than divx

  11. x264 is an open source implementation of the MPEG 4 part 10 spec (AKA AVC, h.264). Divx/Xvid are implementations of the older MPEG 4 part 2 spec.
