hello everyone, i recently got a Nokia 6620 cell phone, and i really like it. the only problem i have run into so far is transfering files to and from the PC. the phone came with connection software as well as a USB cable however, for some reason it is not connecting to my PC so there is no recognition, hence no file tranfer. trust me i have tried every other way of readjusting the USB end in the port, tilting it this way and that, but no luck.

the connection software gives an option of USB cable, infrared or bluetooth connectivity to the PC. since i dont have an IR port on my comp, i was thinking of making my PC bluetooth compatible. my coworker said his laptop has bluetooth, but i dont understand what he means. so i turn to u guys, what must i do in order to make my PC bluetooth compatible? is there a certain harware i must buy, must i install certain drivers? please do advise. also will this bluetooth connection allow me to access the internet from my phone web browser via the bluetooth connection on my PC? reason being that i didnt subscribe to the internet service from my phone company because for me, it was way too pricey... thanks again for your advice, and take care.

    again my questions were:
    1) what must i do in order to make my PC bluetooth compatible?
    2) will this bluetooth connection allow me to access the internet from my phone web browser via the bluetooth connection on my PC?

    thanks again,

:edit: i found this product on the bluetooth website, does this let me do what i want to do?

You need a Dongle. Go to this eBay link, and yes, your link shows one.

Don't think so. They probably all come out of the same factory in China.

  8. When connecting a mobile phone to a PC, you have to go into the settings of the phone, select your connection, turn it on (it's off by default), and then have the phone "broadcast" it's availability.
The PC should then "find" the device, providing you have installed the drivers for the PC to talk to the device. This software usually comes on a CD with the USB cable or bluetooth adapter.

FWIW, I gave up on USB with my Nokias, and now use bluetooth exclusively with my Noki's and Moto E815's (I have 2 of each).
It may not be as fast, but it's more reliable, and I don't have to fuss with any cables.

  11. There's always settings...
Your laptop should have some bluetooth software.
Load it up, and let it search for devices. Make sure the phone is on, and you've enabled the "find me" on it. Usually a 60 second thing, but once the computer has found the device, it will (should) prompt you for the type of connectivity.
This can vary from "headset" to PIM transfer from outlook, but one of the options should be "obex file transfer". This is what you need to get things to and from the phone.
Make sure that pictures are the right size, mp3's aren't too large, use short filenames with no spaces if possible, videos are the right format (usually 3gp) if your phone plays video, etc.
All the specs for your phone should be somewhere on the Noki site.

USB connectivity can work completely different, using the phone to control the PC, and moving files that way.
Bluetooth assumes you're using the PC (Explorer) to move files, and the phone just sits there.
This depends on what software comes with your bluetooth dongle, but it's generally this way.

  13. If the icon is in the tray, right click and see what options there are. You already have the software installed.
Put the phone on "find me", and click the icon.
    See what happens/opens.
Your dongle will also come with software which may work on the laptop too.

but i thought that u only need the dongle if the laptop is not bluetooth configured. instead of an external dongle, isnt the laptop built with a bluetooth sensor device?

ok i followed ur instructions, but it says that there is no Bluetooth device detected...

  15. I guess I misunderstood. I thought you wanted Bluetooth on a PC, as well as the laptop, thus purchasing the dongle for the PC...
    Anyhow...
Are you sure the bluetooth is enabled on the laptop?
Did it actually search for devices?
Is it able to use obex?
Is there any options for that? (there may not be).
It could be the laptop is only enabled for bluetooth headsets, external speakers, or some other.
You'll have to check the laptop's manual.

Are you also positive you have bluetooth enabled on the phone?

OK, a few things for you to try, if you haven't already.
    Go to http://www.nokiausa.com/support/phones/main/1,2836,6620,00.html
Download the Nokia PC suite and install it on your PC/laptop.
This should give you everything you need for connectivity with your phone (I had assumed you did this already).
From the same page, select FAQ's.
Choose your 6620 from the dropdown list.
Type "bluetooth" in the search box, and it will give you 28 FAQ's on troubleshooting bluetooth with your phone.

good deal, yeah i have the PC Suite but i never thought of checking the FAQ section for the bluetooth. yes to tranfer files to my laptop from my phone, i used the USB cable. but i got tired with the wires and bluetooth just seemed more reliable. ill check out the FAQ.

"It could be the laptop is only enabled for bluetooth headsets, external speakers, or some other."

that makes very good sense, but again ill check back into the manual. thanks.

alright, after waiting over 2 months i finally got my dongle off of ebay and i must say that i am impressed. its a small nifty little thing and it works great. i am tranferring files with much ease now, and the dongle collaborates very well with the Nokia PC Suite. there is only one thing i can not do, that is connect to the internet on my phone via my PC bluetooth connection. i have cable internet, and i think that the only way that i can connect to the web via bluetooth is thru a PC dialup connection. so is there a way that i can have both a cable and a seperate dialup connection for web browsing for my phone via bluetooth? am i going about this the wrong way. any advice will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

  18. Rarely is there a profile for a phone to use the computer's internet. Often the profile is the other way, using a phone to access the internet wirelessly when connected to a laptop.

o really, hmm.. i always thought it meant that i would be able to use my comps internet through my phone. isnt that possible with the dongle?
Wow! You got shocks, pegs... LUCKY!

  20. It may be possible. It depends on your phone, your PC, and the software to connect the two.
If the software has that particular BT profile, then your phone must also support it.
Usually requires setting up a com port on the computer, so the phone can access the network.
    It's complicated, but sometimes works.
Set up Network sharing on the bluetooth dongle, set up Internet connection sharing on the computer, and it may work.
I don't quite understand why you want to do this.
Your phone has direct internet access, why link it with a computer?

the reason i want to do this is that i dont subsribe to use the internet via phone, so i thought that if i use my computers internet, i wont have to pay to access the internet from my phone, since i would be using an existing internet that i am already paying for from my pc.
