Anyone own any of the following?

    D-link 520 or 750
    Buffalo Link Theater
    Netgear EVA700

Or something similar. I would like to have the option to load movies from a networked computer rather than load up a usb drive every time I get a new movie or tv show. Dosent have to be wireless as I have a port at my TV.
The WD would be perfect if it had network connectivity.

Thanks in advance for you help.

  3. From what I hear the Popcorn Hour works. I hardly ever see negative feedback about them here. The Dlink 320 had many many problems. This has soured a lot of user to DLink.

The Popcorn Hour (PCH) will handle a LOT more video formats and file types than the DLink, including h.264, AVC, MOV, and VC-1, which are the predominate formats used for HD.

About the only things that the PCH won't play are:

Adobe Flash video due to licensing issues
MMS video streams due to licensing issues, although it does support RTSP but it is not documented.
DivX3 video, but it is a very old format. DivX4 and up work fine.
Probably RealMedia streams, but I haven't tried them.

The workaround there is to use TVersity to transcode them on the fly to the PCH.

The PCH user interface is pretty basic looking in comparison to other media players, but you can use the many skins and jukeboxes with it that the PCH user community have created. A wireless adapter is offered separately, but wireless is almost useless when dealing with the bitrates required for HD video streams.

You can buy a network adapter for it and run firmware on it. Looks pretty awesome.

  6. As Jstewart said theres is experimental firmware that allow the WD to be networked. But it all looks a bit too early doors for me. AFAIK the next best step up is the Pocorn hOUR, fully networkable .
Have you thought about something like this EDGESTORE das200
    £60 allows two drives?? http://www.amazon.co.uk/EdgeStore-DAS200-Bay-SATA-Enclosure/dp/B001H54JY0/ref=sr_1_1?i...0059645&sr=8-1

There are better & cheaper stores of course
And of course there are better versions of the PopCorn Hour Media Tank eg the Egreat HDX1000, IOBOX ?????
Corned beef is now made to a higher standard than at any time in history.
The electronic components of the power part adopted a lot of Rubycons.
