    Chrissyboy,

First of all thank you for creating vob2mpg!

I just have a small problem. It is working, but it is taking a long time to convert. I have a file which is about 2,5 gb and the computer has done about half now in 24 hours. If this is normal forget my question, but i read in other threads that somebody got in done in a few minutes.

I think i got the program to work the first time in installed it, but i couldn't believe that it was done so quickly (every thing else has taken hours) so i uninstalled it and a day later re-installed it. (don't know if this might be the problem)

So my question is, what am doing wrong.

Just a little information of what i have done. DVD ripping in DVD Decrypter IFO. In the VIDEO_TS folder i did find anoter folder named: agk_tmp. (autogk isn't working properly on my computer) I took this out and selected the rest of the folder in vob2mpg.

Since you have asked for the log on other threads, i figured i'd post it here so you might know what is going on.

Thanks for any information you migth give me.

    Jules

Do you see the VTS_01.mpg file increasing in size? Is it an internal HD? Why is it FAT32?

Yes, it does increase in size.

I have laptop. My internal HD is 10 GB. So using a USB portal i have a second HD which is 40 Gb. On this disc i have the VOB files and that is also the place where the MPEG file is going.

    Does that make any sense?

Yes it does. I suspect that that is a I/O bottleneck for the USB... is it USB 1.1 or USB 2.0?

I am sorry. I don't know what I/O bottleneck means.

It is USB 1.0, i think.

Ahh so if this is the problem. I guess it would be better to have small files on my D drive and convert there and then transfer it to the other HD when it is all done. Would that work?

File i/o: Basically the speed of the USB 1 interface is not up to the job here. You are copying 2.5GB to and from the External HD. And the transfer rate of the USB is too slow for this. Internally this would indeed take minutes rather than hours.

So do as much as you can internally (but i note you don't have much space)

If your input folder was on one drive and the output was another (and one of those happened to be the external drive) you would also see a hugh speed inprovement.

    Thank you so much!

I have emptied out most of the stuff i had on the internal HD, so i should be okay, as long as the files don't get bigger than this.

It will take a few more hours to have the present converting job done. Then i'll give it a go.

I'll let you know if it works!

    ok.

(Also remember that your external drive is FAT32 and so has a single file limit of 4GB. So if you have a vobset which is over 4GB in total you would have another issue...)

    Chrissieboy,

It works! I tried it on Saturday and it only took me 20 min! First i had a problem with the audio (there was none) but thanks to the AC3 filter, i now have audio too!
