  1. Right well it used to work fine but now I'm having all sorts of probs, I only have divx and xvid codecs installed and my avi's stopped playing. I ran them thru gspot and I have everything installed so what happens is when I play it the file loads and stays on the black screen and doesn't play and when I skip it it'll freeze up wmp. I've tried reinstalling the codecs but that didn't work and wmp 10 is the 1 I have.

I would suggest dumping WMP and using VLC Media Player instead

I would STRONGLY suggest dumping WMP and using something like Media Player Classic.

Do a forum search and you will see how many problems there are with WMP. WMP has too many bugs and problems which is why people suggest using alternative players instead. Your title says it all

  7. I have used WMP for a long time and it's so buggy. I have a problem in the past that sometimes it plays divx video and sometimes not with the latest divx pro codec installed.
Try Media Player Classic, you will love it, you will never experience a problem with it if you have proper codecs installed.
I use WMP 10 only to play some DVD's with NVidia Pure Video Decoder

by the way why you don't want to use VLC Media Player or Media Player Classic? Both of them are free and far better than WMP, the only thing is that you will not see some blue coloured bars floting on screen when playing an audio file

Nice answer. Almost like you didn't need help in the first place.

Just in case you still need a solution and didn't make your original post just because the urge hit you, I would take everyone else's advice and use media player classic.

  9. Yeah alright well you guys convinced me into getting a new player, but not MPC because it lags imo, takes a few secs after I click close for it to exit. I also dont like the 1 click pause thing so I'll look into something else.

I'd have to say that I have had no issues at all with Media Player Classic. I never experienced the "lag" that you experienced. I also like that you can get things like Real Media plugins for it to avoid download the ridiculous Real One player.

    I think Jagabo said it.

  12. ok well it turns out getting a new player doesn't do it because when I load my avis in tmpgenc, it'll encode but only sound with no audio. Please help me figure this out.

Sound with no audio? That's a real problem you've got there. I think maybe you mean audio with no video? That could be a simple case of your VFAPI plugin settings need tweaked. I think you could try bumping the priority of the directshow filter... that might help.

Either that, or you don't have the proper codecs installed.

    Re-Install DirectX 9.0c

    Reinstall your audio card drivers

    Install FFdshow

    Reboot.
