    Sounds like Real Media?

Yes, rmvb = Real Media Variable Bitrate.

    Try Realplayer.

  5. Realplayer 10 for mac is available at http://www.real.com If you are on a mac it will present you automatically with the Realplayer for mac page. Just click on the free version button to go to the download instrucitons.

Ffmpegx can convert rmvb files provided you install the needed software and change the extension to .rm. Your encoding options are then xvid with mencoder or divx with mencoder. The presets work well so the process is rather easy once the software is installed.

  8. Go to this page on the FFMPEGX web site

    http://homepage.mac.com/major4/download.html

and scroll all the way to the bottom to the section called:

OPTIONAL INSTALL: IF YOU WANT TO ENCODE FROM REALVIDEO SOURCES

Read and then download the "Stable build" from the link on that page.

    Cheers,
    Alph
