I've been using a DVP642/37 for a while now (years, mostly with hacked firmwares) and it's been great but I've recently started having problems with it skipping playing divx and xvid files that it shouldn't be having problems with (I'm convinced it's about to die).
I was looking at picking up a DVP5960/37 as a replacement and between all the posts and reviews I've found, I can't get a clear idea if it will really do what I need:
* Region free & converts PAL to NTSC (play R2 PAL dvd on NTSC TV) (I think the region hack allows this but not sure)
* DTS passthrough on the coax port (need new firmware or is that only with hdmi?)
* Divx and xvid files with AC3 stream passed through the coax port
* SRT subtitles as separate files in the same directory as the divx file, optionally selectable
* In general, higher compatibility rate than the DVP642/37
Basically, I don't care about upscaling, hdmi, or the usb port (I'll connect the player by component + coax and burn discs). All I need is something that does what the DVP642/37 does but hopefully with a better compatibility rate.
If anyone can give me a straight answer, I'd really appreciate it.
