  1. Hi, I'm new on DVD stuff, so here is my question:

Is there a way to convert more .avi files to a single DVD than the typical 4 files (25 minutes each)?

Yes, if you encode them to mpg at the correct bitrate.
Use a bitrate calculator to find out what that bitrate is. (See TOOLS left)

  3. Thanks for this info, now I have another question, when using tMPGEnc for making NTSC VCD's I set the video arrange method to:

    CENTER (custom size)
    316 x 216 pixels

this way I could get the hole picture on TV (if not done this way, the edges would not fit on screen).

Now, should I use the same size for a DVD or is it diferent?

  6. OK, something went wrong, I used the calculator in java with the following ajustments:

    Video Lenght : 3 hrs 20 min
    DVD's : 1 x 4.37 GB (DVD5)
    Custom size : 4480
    bps : 1 kbps = 1024 bits
    Audio Bitrate : 128 kbps
    Custom audio : 128 kbps x 1 track
    ISO : 100 MB/DVD
    Calculated Bitrate : 2799 kbps
DVD Max Bitrate : 9442 kbps

With this result, I converted one file of 250 MB (25 min) in TMPGEnc. and got a .mpg file of about 435 MB. But when adding this file to Nero Vision Express it reads a whopping 2.5 GB.

Maybe I did the calculation wrong (I put the video lenght as to how long 8 movie files would last). Or maybe because I used TMPGEnc (trial version ) thats expired and converted to MPEG 1 and not MPEG 2.

    Any ideas... anyone?

Yes, don't use nero for authoring your DVD, or turn off the "make standard compliant" option. Nero is trying to re-encode your video. Use a real authoring program instead..

    Thanks for the extras guys.

And @jimmy - the location for the original poster was mexico so I knew it had to be ntsc :P :P

And actually mats forgot the 704x480 as an extra resolution option.

But back to the original poster 9 times out of ten 720x480 should be what you choose.
