Increaseing Ripping Speed On New Drive?

Ripped my first DVD with my new DVD/CD-RW laptop drive. It was terribley slow, started off around 1x and only got to about 3.5x at the most.

Any simple ways to increase ripping speed? Options i don't know about?

Do a search fo speed hacked firmware.

I had my old lite-on hacked for speed and bitsetting, although i never use my burners for ripping.

If the drive is slow at reading/ripping a dvd disc the drive could be stuck in the PIO MODE. Use this link to check if your drive is DMA ENABLED.

If you have a LITEON DVD-ROM/DVDRW you can use 3rd party hacked firmware to make the drive read at a faster speed. There is a risk for flashing the drive wrong but the directions are fairly easy to follow. I've flashed many LITEON DVD-ROM's with the hacked firmware. More than likely it's because it's a Laptop drive. Mine is the same way and it's setup in DMA Mode. Threy run slower to conserve battery life. I don't know if this works, but you can try pluging it into AC source, then go into power management and change the configuration from "Laptop" to "Desktop".

Let me know if that works. I know it definately speeds up the CPU in my Laptop when I do that.

I use my laptop like a desktop, always plugged into AC power. But i went and changed that setting you mentioned in power management anyway.

Ok another page i came across suggested to download the intel application accelerator. I downloaded what i thought was the latest version from intel's homepage, but when i tried to install it said it was not compatable with my chipset.

Any tips on how to locate a version that would work with my chipset?

Ok i just installed the ASPI layer and tried ripping. The speed went up a good bit, starting off at 3.5x instead of 1x. Now its doing over 5.0x, which is a NICE improvement.

No one mentioned this yet. The drive might be firmware locked to rip slowly for dvd's that are encrypted (commercial dvd's). Try ripping a burned dvd and see if the speed is faster.

3.5 - 4x seems about right for a laptop. They simply aren't as fast as desktops.
