You can speed up conversion time by using the simple techniques mentioned in the conversion guide for converting to SVCD. (For example, make TMPGEnc high priority when active and turn off your screen saver...etc.) But the best way to speed up your encoding is to get a faster computer.
I just did an SVCD using my friends computer (top of the line: Athlon XP processor, 1.7 GHz, 512 Mb RAM, etc.) and it only took 5 hours.
But why do you demultiplex after you've done the converting? Do you have sync problems of some sort?
