Starting to look like the benq is not that good of a scanner using nerocd-dvd speed. My question is should I believe the report that my SONY 710A and my Lite -on 1693 give? I get great PI errors but my PI failures are high up to 8 on Benq usingthe same disk using the drives that I list gives no more than 2 and a lot less of them. Benq still give it a quality of 95%. What could be tha cause this?

You want answers regarding scanning with cd/dvd speed then my suggestion is post this question at the BENQ FORUM at Cdfreaks.com. On this forum site there aren't as many members here that do scanning. You'll get much more help at the BENQ FORUM. It would be helpful to post your scan there as well. Trust me there'll be members there that can help you out.

  5. I agree with budz - Cdfreaks.com has a much stronger community interest in quality scanning. The Benq forum there is good for specific Benq related scanning questions. There is also a sub-forum dedicated to media testing/scanning under the blank media forum. Link here: http://club.cdfreaks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=96

May want to spend some time there if interested. Keep in mind that comparing Liteon quality scans to Benq quality scans can be difficult to interpret at times. You're comparing a 1ECC scanner to a 8ECC scanner. I use two drives for scan purposes - a Benq 1650 and a Liteon 165H6S. I prefer and feel more comfortable with Liteon scans, but in reality it is a matter of preference. Keep in mind that there is no right or wrong quality scan. Just that particular drives reading/error correction capabilities. If using 4.50 cd-dvdspeed, try scanning with the 6xCLV on the Benq. That usually produces a closer looking scan to the Liteon (at least on mine anyway). Good Luck.

So it the ECC will give me 8x more during the scan than a lite one? So if I get a PI of 8 this would look like 1 PI on a lite one

Not really. It's not that simple.
Start here: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showpost.php?p=598837&postcount=1 and read up on the basics.

    Then try these:

A ton of info in the Media Testing/Identifying Software forum.
