    Hi,

I have on old DVD I backed up to my HD some time ago. It is still in the original VIDEO_TS folder (VOB, IFO etc). However, when I try and re-burn the VIDEO_TS folder, it says that one of the VOB files is missing. (Don't know how!!!)

I don't have the DVD anymore so I can't use that. The main film is there and that's all I am really bothered about.

Is there a way I can get around this problem by re-authoring? If so, can anyone suggest a good guide. I'd like to keep the main menu and chapters etc if I can. I have had a look but I am a total newbie when it comes to authoring!

Simple for someone like myself , but as you want to keep the menu and chapter's it's a little more involved ... you could do this with commercial product's ... but I like to give freeware my vote , as most commercial product's have bug's or restriction's .

To keep these item's would involve stripping the whole thing down to video and audio stream's , then rebuilding the menu's , linking title's , and more ... something I wouldn't recommend to newbie's .

    Simple method :

Just grab vobedit , open first vob of title , choose demux , video or mpeg , make sure you check "complete title set" , and go , save to a new folder and wait .

Repeat , but now demux the audio stream .

Audio is listed back in main window in left pane of vobedit , click down till you see audio .

Normally 0x80 ac3 is english ... though you might be dealing with lpcm , dts , or other ... so if you are not sure , you will need to demux all audio stream's .

Play each audio stream , when you find the one you want to keep , delete the rest .

Consider if audio not in ac3 format , convert to ac3 using besweet .

    --------------------------------------------------------------------

Open ifoedit ... choose author dvd (up top) , sellect vid , sellect audio , sellect output folder and go .

Hit "get vts sectors" ... you now have two of each ifo .

Check the lower two ifo's , check video info and audio info is correct , double click on item not correct , fix up , hit ok .

When all done , click second last ifo , hit save , over write original ifo in this folder ... repeat for last ifo listed .

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

    Create a new folder .

In this folder place folder's audio_ts and video_ts
    Place new title vob's and ifo's in video_ts .

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Nero has two folder's in dvd creation ... double click red video_ts , then add your new file's from your new video_ts folder , set burn speed to 4 and wait .

Ghost burn is similar , but restricted to 4.35gig ... free , dosent use other api's .... burn's bootable cd iso's , including linux rescue cd iso's .

Imageburn , just choose folder where title reside's , set burn speed to 4 , and go .... should nero api be a problem ... it will fail

Dvddecryptor use's iso , use folder2iso to create iso from your new folder , the one that has audio_ts and video_ts folder's in it .

Name iso , and wait .

Should nero api be a problem ... this will fail .

Have yet to test native api under xp ...

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

For those with easycd creator , that has bellied up ... grab ghostburn here

    http://ghosthunter.true.ws

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

This dose avoid a menu ... upon insert , dvd title start's play .

As for a complete guide for such thing's ... this would be different from title to title , to which no one guide could ever cover ...

Do a search on user post's , use my user name , and check out my guide's ... more are coming ... just currently busy with legal pursuit's ...

rede96 ... if this is a commercial dvd then what you are wanting to do is piracy ... it is illegal to make a copy of a disk that you do not own (even if you owned it in the past but no longer own it) ... go out and buy another copy of the dvd and rip it to make a copy ... you won't need to worry about missing vobs either.

if on the other hand it is a home made disk then there are several ways of doing what you need ... have a look in the guides section of this site ... i'm sure there will be something there that will help you.

Does the DVD you want to copy play? Is everything there? If so, just copy the files from one place to another with something like Nero to burn.

If something is missing, unplayable, but giving you some problem, perhaps could drop that part using shrink? If the missing part isn't giving you any problems, just copy.

To re-author, read guides/posts on demuxing content, import into your choice of DVD authoring software, & create new layout. Hard to say which guides etc. until you've chosen the software you're going to use.
