  1. My problem is this. I originally had a Lite On dvd-rom drive and a NEC dvdrw(3520). A few months ago the dvd-rom stopped Ripping my dvds. It would run into all kinds of error messages and would crash my pc when running DVD Shrink. I quit using it for a while and just used the NEC burner to rip and burn my dvds. This week I bought a Lite On SOHC-5236V combo drive, hoping that it would fix the problem. It didnt. The LO combo drive had its own problems. It would quickly run out of memory in DVD shrink(I have 2 Gigs) and would have tons of errors in DVD decrypter. I checked the IDE controller in the Device manager and even reset it to DMA but no improvement. I then took both drives out and restarted the pc, then shut it down and installed the old LO DVD-ROM that had quit working, and now it works fine. So I thought my Combo drive would rip DVDs now. But NO it still won't rip my DVDs with DVD Shrink.

    Things Ive Tried:

    Reset IDE controllers
    Remove all drives
    Run drives individually
    Change Ribbon Cables
    Change Power Cables
Let the DVD play in WinDVD 5 a few mins before trying to backup

I should state that both the LO combo and the LO dvd-rom drive would do everything else fine. The DVD-rom drive is ripping fine now but the new LO combo still runs out of memory and crashes DVD Shrink. In the DVD Shrink video preview the output appears mostly covered in green.

    DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15
    DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0

My systems specs are in my profile if that helps.

    Thanks!

Are you saying the LITEON COMBO DRIVE & LITEON DVDROM can't back up movies w/shrink and decrypter? I think you mean the files are not being ripped correctly. The LITEON COMBO DRIVE & DVDROM can't write to DVD MEDIA.

Have you tried using DVDFAB DECRYPTER to rip the files? Try that first then use DVD SHRINK. Make sure your LITEON DVDROM & COMBO CDRW/DVDROM jumpers are set correctly.

  3. Budz, Thanks for your reply, you are correct. I did mean that The LO combo drive and the LO DVDROM drive would not RIP the disks in shrink and decrypter.

I checked the jumpers and they are correct. The LO DVD-ROM seems to be ripping in shrink and decrypter now. The LO combo that I just purchased still will not rip. It still has the same problems as mentioned in my original post.

I think that I will try DVDFAB DECRYPTER .

Could the problem be hardware. IS my new combo drive bad. I will run some more tests tomorrow and add the results here then.

  4. Well I tried DVDFAB DECRYPTER and it works fine with both the LO Rom drive and the LO combo drive. From what I have read DVDFAB DECRYPTER is still being updated from time to time so that should help me in my backups. Thanks.

About my LO Combo drive. When running DVD Shrink it uses up all of my memory(2GIGS) and then I get an error message. Also while running Shrink my LO Combo drive shows green in most of the preview window while ripping.

I was wondering, is my LO COMBO drive defective, and are DVD Shrink and my combo drive not compatible?

Are you running other programs in the background while using DVD SHRINK? Check your task manager to see the memory usage and performance tab.

In DVD SHRINK under the BACKUP DVD TAB make sure there is a check mark under the "RUN BACKUP IN LOW PRIORITY MODE. See if that works.

Also when ripping a dvd disc it's best to rip the files to your HARD DRIVE first then use DVD SHRINK.

  6. Most likely the only program that is running in the background is AVG antivirus. I will try turning it off and check for other programs too.

I've read that on this forum many times. I am sure that you are right. I have gotten used to DVD Shrink working so flawlessly that it really bugggs me when this drive won't rip a dvd. I may have to change my back up methods.

Would a background program only affect one drives ripping abilities and not the other two?

    Thanks a bunch!
