I have a Lite-On 1633S burner and some Ritek DVD+R Dual Layer disks. I just used DVD Decrypter in ISO Write mode to burn a 7.7GB ISO image. The resulting disk is unreadable... when I put it in my DVD ROM drive, the drive just spins and spins. Any attempts to look at it result in a hung process.

What do I need to do to successfully burn a movie DVD on to a dual layer disk?

I would try a Verbatim DL, they seem to have the best success rate. Did you try it in a standalone player, or just the computer?

I tried it in my DVD-RP56 just for giggles, and it played. The menus work, but when I play an episode (Firefly Disc 1), the video is full of pixellization and artifacts, and then freezes solid at 26 seconds. The first time it did this, I saw an H)5 error, and nearly had a heart attack. The tray wouldn't open, but hitting the power button did make the player shut off after a minute. Then I could power back on and get the tray open.

Can I try burning at a different speed, or is there some other button or feature that might make a better copy? I've always heard that the Ritek media was very good stuff.

as redwudz suggested use VERBATIM DUAL LAYER MEDIA. RITEK's DL media isn't the best to use.

  5. Trust me it's the media so use the Verbatim and you buy a ten pack of them here for $17 after rebate. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817131163

Does your DVD Rom support dual layer media? Quite a few do not.

Does your DVD-RP56 support the format you burnt the Firefly episode in?

Those are probably the reason for the errors and non-seek problems you are experiencing.

Try to burn it using ImgBurn instead of Decryptor and don't burn faster than 2.4X. I just did 2 discs today using that method as well as setting the drive to burn the discs as DVD-ROMs. They are flawless and work fine in all my players including my Panasonic DVD recorder which doesn't normally accept any +R product...

Oh yeah, I use Fuji +R DL for the burns...

What do you mean by "format"? I just set Decrypter to use ISO Write and hit the go button

What do you mean by "burn the discs as DVD-ROMs"? As opposed to RW? Is this a setting or ???

He/she is referring to setting the book type to DVD-Rom. If your burner supports it, you can trick your DVD player into believing the DVD+R is a real DVD-ROM disc and not a DVD+R. Sometimes, it's the only way to get a DVD+R media type to work.

As previous posters suggested, I would try better media. Ritek's media has really gone in the crapper these days.

    Ahhh!

I found the "Book Type" setting. For DVD+R DL, it says EEPROM! What does that mean? There's no help, and searching for "book type" on the ImgBurn forum got four pages of results, none of which seem to apply.

I just tried to burn this disc again with ImgBurn. It pops up a window asking me to "Select Layer Break Position". Huh??? I don't know! In the settings, the "Calculate Optimal" button is checked.

I picked the first thing and burned the disk. Using ImgBurn at 2X and setting the "book type" results in a DVD that won't play at all. I'm going backwards here
