    i just downloaded some files which are in the BIZARE format of .divx (this is new to me) and was wondering if there is a way to play them on my mac.

    A .divx movie is just an .avi with a different file extension, I believe. (With the video encoded in DivX, naturally. )
    If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?
