    Hi,

I've tried searching through the posts before creating a new post but didn't see anything, so sorry if it's there and I missed it but I'm trying to download and install the mpeg2enc file and whenever I click on the link here and when I searched on Google I kept getting a new window on Safari with text. I have no idea what to do with it.

I tried running ffmpegX without that software and it won't work. It says there is no source video or sound and then it freezes.

I'm pretty new to this. I just want to convert my rm and avi files so that I can upload them into iMovie for editing. Any suggestions?

    Cheers,

    a. You do not need mpeg2enc for conversions to DV. It is only useful for conversion to mpeg-1/mpeg-2 (VCD/SVCD/DVD). ffmpegX works well without it, when you convert to other formats.
    b. The ffmpegX binaries installer doesn't care if Safari or the Finder think mpeg2enc to be a text document. It's okay to use the Locate button to point the installer to mpeg2enc.intel.txt . The installer will figure it out and correct it.
    c. For RM source files, you also need to install "reallib" (PowerPC or Intel).
    d. ffmpegX cannot convert RM to DV directly, as RM sources require a mencoder preset, and DV target requires a ffmpeg preset. You could convert RM to MP4 and convert that to DV.

    Thanks for the help!

I downloaded the RM source your recommended then opened the application and selected .mp4 and finally selected the movie I want to convert and now the program seems to be stuck/frozen: Even though I've clicked "choose" I'm still stuck on the screen though in the background I can hear the computer making those I'm-doing-something kind of noises.

This happened before, too. Any suggestions?

Open ffmpegX, load your Real Media file, then click the [Play] button. The mplayer application should open and play the file. Press [q] to quit. If it doesn't play, then the installation of reallib didn't go right.

The correct order is listed at the top of the ffmpegX window:
    1. Drop file, 2. Select a Target format or use tabs, 3. Encode
Don't switch step 1 and 2. Doing so may alter some settings in unwanted ways.

My copy of ffmpegX has no "Choose" button?

  5. Just to answer your actual question, you need to either option-click the download link or right (or control) click the link and select "Download Linked File" or whatever the right option is for your particular browser.
