  1. 1) I've seen that Lightscribe dvd media is made by Verbatim & HP, with Verbatim being priced higher on the websites I've look at. Is the HP media more coaster-prone?

    2) Any word on if Lightscribe dual-layer dvd's are in the near future?

    Thank you in advance!

It would depend on the media code of the DVD. If you find it out, you can check it to the left under 'DVD Media'. <<<<<<

Dual layer is fairly expensive as is. That would add even more to it. There are probably plans to look into Lightscribe for DL, but I doubt it will be anytime soon that it would be marketed.

  3. Not to sounds like a yutz, but where do I find the media code? Is it on the package, on the disc, or (most conveniently) listed on the websites that sell the media?

    Thank you!

Some of the websites that sell the media list the codes. Otherwise you can cross reference it somewhat by looking to the 'DVD Media' lists to the left. The problem is several manufacturers may make the same brand and name of DVD. That's why the media code is important.

The best way is to use a program that can read the code, such as DVD Identifier.

If you have Nero, Nero's InfoTool will show it as "manufacturer ID". This is for a CD, but DVD would be similar.

Well Verbatim is a subsidiary of MCC and their best discs tend to be made by them so I would imagine that their Lightscribe discs are. They also use CMC amoungst others, but claim "using MCC technology" or something like that. I have actually found Verbatim CMC CDR's to be quite decent myself, but not on the same level as genuine MCC discs.

I can't really see the point in Lightscribe myself though. More expensive media, slow as hell to "print" and currently only greyscale.
