is there a way to take a certain scene from a dvd, instead of ripping the whole movie, or would i have to rip the whole DVD then import that into final cut pro and edit from there? im pretty sure that would take forever to import a whole dvd file into final cut...
I am in the need of some video clips for a project, and dvd is the best quality obviously. so i need to know if there is an easy way to just rip a certain part of a dvd...
thanks for any help

i might have just answered my own question...
i know in mactheripper you can just rip a chapter..so i guess thats the way to do it..i dunno ill give it a try -
I would recommend against using MTR in any mode other than Full Disc Mode. In my experience, the files it creates in other modes are corrupted somehow and never seem to be compatible with anything.
For extracting scenes or clips, you can use a commercial program like Cinematize or if you buy Apple's QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback component you can use a shareware program like MPEGStreamClip. -
OK i have MPEGStreamClip 1.5.1 how would u recommend I use this program for what I need?

Hi Nepgunes...I know this isn't gonna seem like much help, but I recently ripped sections of a DVD music video my son has for use in his iPod. I ended up ripping sections with Handbrake and then used MPEGstreamclip to convert them, I think...
Problem is, I only did it once, and I can't remember the steps (its hell growing old). But I do remember that the information was very clearly set out on a website. Problem is, I don't remember which one. But the good news is it was from a Google search. Problem is, I don't remember the query.
Good news is, if you take the time...the exact information you need to do what you are planning is out there.
(Seriously, if I find the info again I will repost with it...)
Sorry, not to be more help than to say "Yep, you can do it that way, and with great results"...my kid watches those video clips every day...

Try:
http://howto.diveintomark.org/ipod-dvd-ripping-guide/
for a start...vary settings to meet your needs...requires only Handbrake! And it gets you only the scenes/selections/chapters you need!
...and actually this whole site is pretty informative. Be sure to click Home and check the rest out. He even has a video on how to rip a DVD using MTR and compress it using D21X. Nice. Ha Ha
