  1. I have a sony handycam that records video on small dvd discs. I have finalized the DVD's and can copy and play on my pc as VOB files no problem. HOWEVER, since i use the same DVD over a few months, i have several chapters within the DVDs. I want to be able to save each individual chapter as a separate movie so i can label accordingly...i.e. "MARCH 5 2008 John Bday" then separately "MARCH 22, 2008 Bill Bday" etc, i have about 50 dvds and just want to know the simplest way to do this. I cant seem to split the chapters from VOB, so do i convert first then edit into chunks??? If so, what format should i convert to (tons of disk space, so that isnt an issue)? Is there an easier way??

    Thanks in advance,
    JB

DVDDecrypter - IFO Mode - File Splitting BY CHAPTER(if indeed you have chapters and not titles).

I suspect they will be listed as titles...not chapters.

  5. In dvddecrypter, they are listed as Chapters and i am able to select one at a time, so that is good. However, when it completes and i play the vob file with windows media player it only plays the first 10 secs or so and then stops. Any ideas??

How many chapters do you think are on the DVD....and how many are listed?
How big are the VOB files that DVDDecrypter gives you?
    Also try playing with VLC.

  7. when i look at the cd itself there are only three VOB files. VIDEO_TS is 288kb, VTS_01_1 is 353,344 KB and VTS_02_1 is 459.488. I set DVD decrypter to only copy VTS_01_1 as a test and selected "chapter 1 and 2" within the program. The result was two VOB files...one is 223,136 kb and the other is 130,208 kb.

FYI - the dvd menu as the webcam created shows 13 different "sections" within the Root menu to choose from. That is the 13 i want to record individually.

  8. FYI - if i play the vob's it created in VLC player, it does play the whole thing but all the "sections" combined.

So the magic number you are looking for in DVDDecrypter is "13".....you need 13 of something. Like I said....you may be looking for titles...not chapters. Regular DVD recorders create new titles when STOP is pressed....not chapters. Some create chapters when PAUSE is pressed...but that is pretty rare.
Do you see 13 of anything in DVDDecrypter?

And since the disc is only a mini disc...the whole idea of splitting BY CHAPTER is to NOT select anything yourself. Just rip the whole disc BY CHAPTER. If that doesn't work....delete it and rip BY CELL ID or some thing like that. It only takes a few minutes.

  11. the chapters are listed....not sure what happened before. if i select each chapter individually, it creates it the way i want it. If i leave it the way it selected it, it basically creates the same VOB files as before. Not ideal, i have to do 1 chapter at a time and it works!!! THANKS!!! Not sure why windows media player wont play them properly, but vlc does.

    Thanks again.
