Hi! I'm giving away a FREE IPOD for everyone who participates... no, just kidding.

I know these iPod transmitters are troublesome in Los Angeles. Any residents here have a particular model that works well?

The problem with the fm transmitters is that they are all regulated by the FCC and have a maximum antenna output of .03 amps. This gives you a range of 100 feet in optimum conditions. In the real world, you'll get a range of about 30 feet.

In areas like Los Angeles, almost every radio frequency is filled up and it's hard to find one that works well, considering they can't exceed the power output determined by the FCC.

I got my iTrip to work decently, but I really had to fool around with the frequency and I had to keep it close to the car's antenna.

You can also pick up an fm transmitter kit, which you can find with a google search. I have one which works marginally better than my iTrip, but it's not as convenient to use.

I shoulda mentioned that I'm using an iPod Shuffle, which needs a mini-jack plug. So that Monster gadget won't work. (And the mini-jack equivalent is not rated well at all.)

Does anyone make an indash car stereo with a mini-jack plug on the front?

I believe so. There are a ton of hack devices out there. You could hack into your current stereo with these. Call you local car audio place.
