I have a little race car that runs in endurance road races here in California. I have four cameras in the car and after a race I may spend several days, even a week, going through it all and putting something together for the team.

    Example:

For some time I have wanted to step it up a notch and transmit live video back to the paddock where we'd have a projector set up so people can watch live. If that works out, we want to equip several cars, switch between then, and stream the race over the Internet.

I've searched for A/V tranmsitter and most are just for short distance, home, and stationary applications. I did find (on B&HPhoto) what looked like a capable system that even ran on 12 volts and offered an optional 1 watt amplifier, promising something like a range of a mile line-of-site, but it turns out that if the car moves at all it can't handle 20'.

    So two questions:
    1. Any recommendations for an affordable A/V transmitter with a mile of more range, and that do not require a helicopter or weather balloons rigged with repeaters?

    2. What are the technical issues with these things that keep more from being available? FCC? Power requirements?

By the way, I have seen some very nice systems for R/C planes and the like, but so far their range is too limited. A typical road course is 3 miles long and has hills.

    Thanks.

You have already discovered that all "affordable" wireless video transmitters--even the long-range ones--really only work in stationary environments. The technology is certainly available, but not what you might consider affordable.

Here's some info on what the sports broadcasters use:

(If that 2nd url is too long, just do a search on Integrated Microwave Technologies RF Central microLite HD Elite system.)

I laud your efforts to step it up a notch.

    Thanks.

The second link worked and led me to articles on the MicroLIte HD, which sounds perfect, although in terms of $/pound it is probably gold. Still, I wonder if they had obsolete models of showroom demos to sell. What the hell, I'll contact them.
