  1. I added an external hard drive and USB 2.0 card to my computer. I did use the drives after the installation but they aren't there now. What the hell did I do? They are my F and G drives. My new external hard drives go all the way up to L.

I assume you mean your internal optical drives?

    Places to look:

Your BIOS to see if they are listed.

    Control Panel>Device Manager.

    Administrative Tools>Disk Management(Local)

One other possibility is that you have a IRQ conflict. Try moving your USB card to a different slot. The one below the AGP port is the most problematic. Or check your IRQ settings.

  4. OK, I uninstalled the card and they are not listed anywhere. I can't find IRQ's, where do I look? Is there a limited number of IRQ's available? Is this what happened?

  5. OK, I found the IRQ for the keyboard, mouse, etc. Since my drives don't show up, I can't find them. Is it time to break out the restore discs?

Edited: That won't work, my hard drive restore is corrupted (I know this from previous experience) and I my optical drives can't be found. Can I add an external drive to load up the discs to restore? Come on, guys, don't make me resort to the Geek Squad.

Come on now, did you solve the problem?

  8. Yes. Somehow when re-assembling it, I yanked the connector from the motherboard. I can't believe the time I spent on it and didn't catch it.

All of us have done something similar. The saying 'The most obvious explanation is usually the right one.' is too often true.

At least no damage was done and it works now.
