  1. I'm trying to create a SVCD of my son from a captured AVI using the Matrox Rainbow Runner capture card. I convert the video file using the TMPGEnc software with the standard SVCD (PAL) profile and burn it using Nero Burning ROM. When I play it in my DVD-player the image is very "jerky". I have tested my DVD-player with the SVCD-image that can be downloaded from this excellent site and it looks just GREAT! Can someone please help and advice how to achieve simplar quality from a captured AVI?

  2. Hi Henrik (dansk?)
The standard SVCD-template is not good enough, certainly if you have fast movements in your movie you need to improve it.
Try this: Load the standard SVCD-template, open the TMPGEnc "settings", go to "Advanced", doubbelclick the line "Deinterlace", choose "Even-Odd field (field, animation adaption)" in the pull down menu below.
Encode a short avi-scene (not longer than 15-30 sec, the encoding takes between half an hour and an hour) and burn it on a CD-RW, test it on your DVD. I guess your problem is solved?
I made my own template, the problem is, that it takes about two hours encoding per one minute of movie (PII 400 MHz). But the quality (like S-VHS and not jerky at all) is worth it.

  3. Hi RHO (ja, jeg er dansk)

Due to the holiday season I haven't tried out your suggestion yet, but I tried to de-interlace the video-file using the de-interlace options in Ulead MediaStudioPro 6.0 and it worked fine. It is going to be interesting to see which method delivers the best quality and the fastest way of working - I'm going to test this.

    Thanx for you input.

    Regards,
    Henrik
