I started off with a movie approx 1.4GB in size, lets call it "the.movie. It was in XviD with 6 channel 5.1 sound.
I used VirtualDubMod to extract the ac3 audio and then used TMPGEnc set on ES mode to produce an .m2v video stream from the avi. I used a bitrate calculator so I now had the.movie.ac3 file and the.movie.m2v file with a combined size of approx 4.0GB. I put both files into TMPGEnc DVD Author set up some chapters and some backgrounds and the result according to the program was approx 4.2GB in size. I created the.movie DVD folder. I loaded the DVD folder into Nero (6.6.0.8). The size bar of Nero gave a size of only 2.9GB. Checked the actual size of the DVD folder and got the same 2.9GB size. Presumed I'd made a mistake somewhere so deleted the folder and started again and got exactly the same results. Burned the folder anyway and when I played back the resulting DVD on my standalone the result was spot on.
Just curious to know where the 1.0GB+ went to. Anyone any ideas???

Sounds like TMPGEnc DVD Author misquoted the size.
    If in doubt, Google it.

TDA might have been reporting total space required, including temp files etc.
