Toshiba SD200e Fault

Hi, Before I consign my faithful Tosh to the dustbin I wondered if anyone could suggest why it won't play any discs . It just comes up with disc error. I have cleaned the lense and all seems to be ok inside i.e no black charred bits! so I have run out of ideas of what else may be wrong. I have a reasonable level of electronics background so any help is welcome.

Does it do any 'seeking' for the DVD tracks that you can hear, or does it just reject the disc immediately?

It could be a dead laser or if you hear a lot of seeking, a sticking laser slide. Does it play any commercial DVD or CDs?

Hi,

Yeah it does do alot of seeking, you can hear the disc keep spinning up. It sometimes starts to play the intro to a DVD i.e. the MGM Lion bit and then stops and will not go any further onto the menu's. If it is the sticking slide etc. hows best to free it up?
