I have a large collection of music concerts on VHS, mainly recorded from TV, which I want to digitalize (as a backup in my personal collection). I plan on using either iDVD5 or DVD Studio Pro 3 to convert to mpeg2/DVD, after having captured the video onto my Mac.
I need some information on the actual capturing process:
I am planning to play the vhs video om my JVC (a high-end, Super-VHS model), and record to a Canon DM-MV550i DV camera on mini-DV film. And then transfer the DV film into iMovie5 on my Mac Powerbook G4 (1,25 MHZ, 512 mb RAM).
Is this the way to go? Will the result be as good as an external capture device? Is mini-DV film a good backup medium for vhs video?
Any advice is welcome!

Most DV cameras have a pass-thru function that will convert the VCR's analogue signal to digital on-the-fly, which will save you time, unless you want a backup copy on DV tape. Picture quality will be as good as a stand alone converter.
