When i burn a DVD i can mount it on the desktop and watch it. When i eject the DVD and then try to watch it on my iMac right after i eject it the iMac will not recognize it and eject it, the drive just makes a funny sound.

This is now happening with every disc i burn. My old burned DVD's can mount on the desktop but no new burned DVDs will mount.

I am still using the same type of disc but i did try a differerent brand and still expierience the same problem. No programs have changed and i havent installed anything new on my computer.

I have burned 100's of DVDs so i know i am not doing anything differerent.

The DVDs work in a stand alone DVD player fine.

Is my burner taking a dump on me?

  5. I have a 110D and have had this problem intermitently since the 10.4.3 system update. I'e even had dmg files fail to mount on the desktop. Then the problem goes away; perhaps it's my cache cleaning...

The posts on MacFixit were highlighting the w106, but thee were other drives mentioned, and the common denominator is more than likely the system update. If the drive ceases to read commercial discs, then it might be a drive failure.

I'm back It's been a while. I just had to post about this topic as it's hitting close to home.

So, my Pioneer 105 lasted 14 months, the 107 that replaced it lasted 18 months....

    I just installed a NEC 3550A. We'll see...
    I don't do Pioneer anymore

I've had the NEC a little over a week, couldn't be happier. I've already flashed it to allow bit-setting to DVD-Rom with the +R disc... Works great, seems everything likes DVD-Roms. Even players that would normally spit out a +R disc love the discs that the NEC writes. So far so good

That's because the drive will use one of two lasers for DVD and the other for CD media. If one fails, chances are the other still works.

So far it still is the drive.

Ok after a month of crap that went on at CompUSA i now have a working computer and Superdrive.

They installed the exact same Superdrive my computer came with.

Also i had a slight small problem with the speaker jack on my computer where if you bumped it a little the speakers would cut out. They installed a new logic board instead of soldering or just replacing the jack. Well the new logic board lasted 1 day before it burnt out and had to wait another week for another new logic board to come in from Apple.

Good news i got a new Superdrive and a new Logic board and it has been working flawlesly for 2 days now.

    Fingers Crossed. X X

    good to hear.

Do you not have another Apple Certified Repair Center
in your area other than ChumpUSA?

Yes i have an Apple store near me but they send it out for repairs.

CompUSA did a great job on my G3 when it died so i figured out they would do the same job.
