okay so i have a dvd that i ripped (it was a dvd i made off a settop dvd recorder) and i coppied the video_ts folder from the dvd. I then demuxed the VOB files using mpegstreamclip and the unscalled m2v and aiff format. when i load the m2v file up in final cut pro the audio becomes out of sync. and when i use the AIFF file instead of the m2v audio file its also out of sync. what is happening? is it because this is a DVD+VR disc and the VOB files wont demux properly? or is this just an odd problem that final cut is creating? should i be demuxing to m2v and ac3 (of course this makes editing in final cut pro impossible). any help would be greatly appreciated.

okay, so i tested it in DVD Studio Pro and everything is fine, just not in final cut pro. do i need to adjust a setting in Final Cut in order for it to sync up? I need to do some trimming before I put it into DVD SP (i was planning on trimming and chaptering in Final cut and then burning in iDVD as I know that program better but perhaps I will use this as an opertunity to learn DVD Studio Pro...however I'd like to use iDVD over DVDSP just for my ease of use)

Depending on the amount of eye candy you want to add, it would be to your advantage to skip FCP and just use DVDSPs basic 1 GOP accuracy for editing. If you use FCP, it will convert to DV for editing and then you would have to export back to M2V for the DVD. You will definitely lose quality in the process. Do you really want to do that?

I also can't recommend Mpeg Streamclip for demuxing a self made DVD. I've had problems with it causing the video to 'Flash' when played back. Using YadeX to 'save streams' on the same content solved the 'Flashing' problem.

Import the streams into DVDSP and edit using the 'Clip start trim' and 'Duration' settings. As in, drag the clips into the timeline, shorten the durations to your first edit, then drag the same assets back into the timeline again, behind the two already there. Then adjust the 'Clip start trim' settings on the second set of clips to effectively preform the edit. Repeat as necessary.

And setting chapter markers in DVDSP is extremely simple. This way you will avoid the quality lost associated with re-encoding.

Awsome thanks! the one thing is that when I used YadeX to try and save streams I always got errors at the very end of the convertion process. is this common?

No matter the error message, i can use those files like any other.
I find YadeX reads files from my set top DVD recorder (choppy noisy old V8 footage) when the finder can't copy, Apple DVD Player can't read, MTR quit and MpegStramclip refuses to open even by force command. YadeX refuses to extract sections with corrupted data and quit, but let you select and keep any other data
