Hi all, first post, please be gentle with me
Okay as per the title, I have some XVid files that i'd like to convert to DVD format and burn to disc, but am experiencing problems.
So far I have tried using NeroVision Express 2, after setting up my menu with a picture in the background and 3 video files to select from via buttons, I went about encoding and burning the files, a 6 hour or so process. The end result is that when I enter the Disc into either my DVD player or X-Box I get the menu screen with the animated buttons, however whenever I hit select or play nothing happens (although on the X-Box it goes back to the green screen).
I've tried this twice now, the first time when I selected the 3 files I was told that the quality (i.e. bitrate) would need to be reduced in order for them to fit on a standard disk, therefore going to the "long play" setting which was going to produce a 3GB output. On my second attempt I selected a Custom bitrate between "long play" and "standard play" which should have produced a 4.2 (roughly) output. Upon checking both disks, the first had only 1.09GB written to it while the second had 1.43GB.
I'm not sure what has gone wrong, but I have read that NeroVision Express 2 dosen't have the best encoding process, could it be down to this? I've managed to convert movie files previously, and work out any problems with them along the way, but this one has got me stumped as I dont know if i'm doing something wrong or if the software is poor.
Any help for me to get these files burned would be great.

I hope you have xvid and divx codec installed. Use TMPGEnc plus or mpeg encoder to convert to mpeg2 format and then try TMPEnc author or any other dvd authoing tools to make dvd.

Other software I have is Ulead DVD Movie Factory 3 & DVD Shrink 3.2, would these be of any use to get the three videos onto one DVD?Microstar MS-6390 Mobo

Maybe I should start from scratch.
I have 3 XVid files (about 350MB each) that I would like to burn onto one DVD for playing on a stand alone player. I would like to incorporate a menu as well.
I have the following software
NeroVision Express 2 (which i've had problems with, described above)
DivXtoDVD (which seems to only wish to convert one file at a time to DVD)
Ulead DVD Movie Factory 3
DVD Shrink
Alcohol 120%
Thanks in advance,

DivxToDVD will do multiple files. Check this guide:http://www.dvd-guides.com/content/view/98/59/

If you would like to incorporate a very, very basic menu, (one Screen with "Play Movie" feature, you could use 'The Film Machine' a pretty good little program to convert Xvid to DVD...Works OK and can be set up to run a 2 or more pass encoder function on it..

Doh, I presumed the DivxtoDVD software only converted one file at time, stupidity got the better of me i'm afraid.
Okay, now that I have converted the XVid files i'm ready to make a menu then burn to DVD, which software should I use for this?
Thanks for the help guys.Microstar MS-6390 Mobo

Update:
I managed to burn the files from the DivXtoDVD software onto disk with DVD Shrink, all files played properly
Unfortunately I was unable to put a menu on the compilation which i'd ideally like to learn to do, is there any way of creating a menu before using DVD Shrink?Microstar MS-6390 Mobo

Update:
Okay, I was managing to get by with a combination of DivXtoDVD and DVD Shrink 3.2, although I could not create any menu's with either.
I then updated my DivXtoDVD software to the latest version and found it to be both slower and less stable. Stupidly I deleted my previous version installer, so i'm stuck with what i've got.
I now find myself throwing more botched DVD-R's in the bin than I would like, not to mention the frustration of having DVD Shrink simply shut down on me during encryption.
I tried a program called The Film Machine, however I found it very rigid in application when dealing with video files, if any of the source files had a differing videocodec, framerate, resolution, audio codec, audio samplinrate, audio channels or number of audio streams it did'nt want to know. While I expect that it turns out good quality DVD's, this would appear to be at the expense of compatibility.
So, i'm looking for alternatives, any recommendations? Would Adobe Encore DVD 2.0 be of any use for what i'm trying to do?Microstar MS-6390 Mobo

I have a very similar problem. I use DivXtoDVD 0.5.2.99 (the one that is supplied here on Videohelp) to convert avi's to dvd format. Than i use CopytoDVD to burn the files onto a DVD. It plays back perfectly on my computer, but when i go to play it on a DVD player the picture jumps. Also, when a friend plays it on his computer it doesnt read the disk. We than tried it on a PS2 and didnt read there either. Why would the picture jump when played on a DVD player? What can i do about this?
