  1. Trying to backup "Collateral" as it's already got a slight scratch on it. However, it plays fine in the DVD player so I'm wondering why I can't get it ripped.

    Tried the following:

DVD Shrink with and without AnyDVD - get the same error at 99% analysing: Failed to read drive D - without AnyDVD that's the only error I get. With AnyDVD I get that plus the "cyclic redundancy check".

DVD Decryptor - gets hung on the first VOB - I let it get up to 42 retries and said to heck with it. Did not use AnyDVD.

DVDFab - got stuck without AnyDVD - completed with AnyDVD BUT when I go to Shrink it says the 3rd VOB has "invalid data".

So, I've managed to get it ripped in file format but now I can't get it cut down to size to fit (it was a dual layer DVD).

    Any suggestions?

More than likely your backup(the rip of it) has errors in it caused by reading through or skipping over the scratched portion of your disc. My suggestion would be that if you want a backup copy to find it in your local bargain bin or visit amazon.com and buy it for $10.99. Even if you manage to burn a disc your copy(backup) will more than likely not play correctly.

When "cyclic redundancy check". comes up you have a bad disc. ROF is correct buy another or last try use RAT DVD is is slower but seems to work on difficult disc.

Use AnyDVD again but this time, try using ISOBuster.

  5. Thanks guys. I just don't wanna admit I have a bad disc... LOL.

I'll try RAT and ISOBuster and if that doesn't work I'll go from there.

I guess this basically means that my DVD burner has a weaker laser than my TV DVD player?

  6. Well I didn't fool with RAT and ISOBuster wouldn't work. I went to clean the DVD as it looked foggy... wouldn't clean... really weird foggy look to it, then I broke it LOL.

    So much for that.
