Just got a 26" lcd for my bedroom with dvi input. I'm looking for the best all around player. Hopefully you guys can recommend something that has divx capabilities, divx compat, and can read dvdr's. I've searched around the net but everything seems to be spam. Recommendations on places to get a good deal on them are also appreciated.

I would even be open to a home theatre in a box if there is a good one you guys have come across. Aloha!

Considering the type of TV you have the Oppo Digital OPDV971H would most likely be a good choice.

You can find a huge thread on this over at the AVS FORUM website.

It had some "issues" at first but my understanding is that all has been fixed due to upgraded firmware.

I'd like to get one myself for my 51" 16x9 HDTV but I just bought my TV then lost my job (currently unemployed) so I'll have to wait a bit longer.

But from my research this DVD player sounds like it's the best thing going especially for the price (which is approximately $200 U.S. Dollars).

  3. Hi-

Check the highest rated player in this very large list. It fulfills all your requirements:

    http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/cgi-bin/shootout.cgi?function=search&articles=all#Oppo%20D igitalOPDV971H%20(DVI)

Sometimes there are deals for it on EBay, refurbished models for $160, but a quick check just now didn't find the company ones. Amazon.com sells them with free shipping, and the company charges shipping if you order direct from them.

    Aloha from the Big Island!

Edit: You beat me to it, John.

I have to agree with FulciLives and say Oppo. I own one of these players along with four or five others setting around my house and its the best of the lot.

Get the Oppo. I have it too. Its DIVX playback is flawless, and the PQ over DVI is about as good as you're going to get under four figures.

I here the I-O Data AVeL LinkPlayer2 is Great aswell... http://www.iodata.com/usa/products/products.php?cat=HNP&sc=AVEL&pId=AVLP2%2FDVDLA it is $250 USD but it does more than the OPPO, like stream files from network and a usb port so you can stream files from a USB Pen or Harddrive.

It also requires that you use your computer to watch anything.

    Not always an ideal situation.

FulciLives might be right, but according to the manual, it supports Video: Mpeg-1, Mpeg-2, Divx (3.11/4.x/5.x/5.2) Xvid, and WMV9. Audio: MP3, WMA, excluding WMA9 pro, PCM, Ogg Vorbis, AAC. Images: Jpeg, bmp, png without the use of a pc. thus the reason why i purchesed it from the OPPO. I should recieve it this Monday so i will test it out and leave a post on what it can do... Thanx for the info FulciLives, if what you say is true then i'll be sure to send it back and get an OPPO

That's not the case; it can be used like a typical player if you don't want to utilize the network features.

  11. never buy refurbished .no return,no warranty

Not true in this case. They are periodically sold on EBay by the company. They allow returns and come with full warranty. There are many documented cases of this in the 2 big Oppo threads at the AVS Forums. Oppo is not an ordinary company. Their customer service is by far the best I've ever encountered.

ntngod: would you happen to own one? i really like to know if its a really good player... i read forums, and seen the reviews on this player... and thats the reason i went with it. I know its a bit much in price but I thought it might be worth it.

No; I've given it some thought over the past few months, but I'd be paying a price premium for the networking features I wouldn't be using at this point.

I wish IO-Data, or another company selling in the US, would build a cheaper, network-less model based around the HD-capable Sigma chip used in the LinkPlayer, though.

  14. If you mainly play AVI, then a Sigma Designs chipset based player is perhaps the better choice. They can play most of the XviD custom quant matrices and the new one can play HD AVI. If your main concern is quality DVD playback, and you have a DVI or HDMI port on your TV set, then the MTK/Faroudja combo of the Oppo wins hands down.
