  1. I need to trim video that I have already converted to .divx. I am having difficulties with some commercial editors that I own that insist on re-rendering the clip that results from just a trim. They produce files that have diffferent characteristics that the one I input. What is recommended for natively editing in .divx?

  2. Not 100% certain but look into VirtualDub or one of it's variants.

  3. Well I don't know virtualdub at all but I downloaded it immediately and loaded a clip and tried a trim. All the options seem to be save as .avi. Maybe it's here but I don't yet know how to save in .divx.

  4. .DIVX files are .AVI files, just with some extra stuff like chapter marks, etc. If you aren't using the extras VirtualDub will work fine for triming DIVX files.

Use Video -> Direct Stream Copy to trim or cut without reencoding. But be aware that you can only start a video segment on a keyframe if you don't want to reencode. There may be 300 or more frames between keyframes.

  5. .avi is a container for video and audio. Your .divx is a .avi that happens to be compressed with the divx video codec.
