Or using a seperate .srt file for that matter...

edit: Too make things clear, I'm re-encoding the mkv, using 1 of the audio streams and the sub stream of the mkv file, to a simple xvid avi file

Anyways, so far I've been using ffmpegX for the job, but it doesn't seem to do the trick. Whatever I do, the subs allways turn out with the standard settings ffmpegX gives with it... Arial font size 1, which is too small.. And it's allso slightly transparent, which doesn't bother me, but since they're are so small it makes them only harder to read.. Obviousyl I tried tweaking the settings in ffmpegX but it doesn't change the outcome one bit..

    My procedure:
Dropping the mkv or avi file, I just keep the standard preset settings... mencoder xvid etc... I check the vob sub box in the filter tab... I select the srt file when using an avi and I change the position... Now that does work, but when changing the font, or the font size, nothing changes at all... It just stays the same... I even tried to use an .IFO file from a DVD rip, but that doesn't change a thing either... I'm kind of desperate...

note: I'm positive this isn't the way the implemented subs look... I checked that.

edit2: k lol... I found out that the files I'm trying to encode have 2 subs... Using the other sub the appearance actually is different and better. In the info window the sub I used earlier is called:
    S_TEXT/UTF8
    The other which looks better:
    S_VOBSUB

Any idea why these look different and how I can make my other seperate .srt files look like that?

What I do with .mkv files and .srt files
    is to:

Convert the mkv to DV Stream using ffmpegx.

then Create a suitable .m2v and .ac3 file using
Compressor and A.Pack from the DV stream.

Process the .srt through Subtitler 0.125 and change any
necessary Font sizes or Font Syles there.

Create a DVD from said files using DVD Studio Pro.

    ymmv.
