    What's the best MP3 player for playing songs on the computer?

    I like Winamp because it uses little memory, but recently I've been using iTunes and I like how it displays the songs in an Explorer-type view, and you can organize the songs by name, album, etc. and it can handle multiple playlists. But iTunes seems too use up more memory though.

    Is there a player that uses little memory as Winamp and is clean looking and can handle multiple playlists?

    Thanks.

    I prefer last WinAmp 2 - 2.91 I believe. Got plugins for every format I am likely to ever come across. Small footprint, does what it's supposed to without fuzz.

    The best MP3 software I know of is the best MP3 software that supports your desires. A player that uses little memory may be different depending on the amount of memory installed. Someone with 128MB installed might consider something that use 10MB to be more than a little while someone with 4096MB installed might consider that same 10MB as miniscule.

    The best is the best that works the best for you. I could never define the best for you. You must decide that. I can offer you options. But when it comes to deciding what is best only you can be the judge of that.

    Since you ask I use Musicmatch Jukebox. It does everything you've listed and requires very little RAM as defined by my system. Your results may vary. For me, it's the very best. For others it's the very worst.

    Is there a way to have the playlist in MMJB to sort by date created or modified? Or is there some program other than ITunes that does this. I always use Winamp, but it doesn't have this feature, and with all my albums now on my computer 5000+ songs, it's tough to find where songs (newer ones) are in my playlist. Original Napster I think still had the best playlist set up, in my opinion.

    Huh? I'm a big supporter of P2P. Even napster had legal purposes. It was just in the limelight and abused to the point where running it as a free operation was impossible. I was sad to see it go. It brought P2P to the forefront and the also unfortunately the front page. Many P2P interfaces have imitated it but none have come close. No spyware, tons of unsigned artists, and a great GUI. Napster ruled!

    @mats

    Yeah, I know. Just wanted to clarify it for others.
    Some people take my hardline stance as a criticism of certain technologies.

    I'd also choose winamp for a small, compact MP3 player. I haven't used it in a while but I know it used to kick the llama's a@#

    It is freeware and it does support multiple playlists. There really isn't much that foobar2k can't do once you know how to use it.

    I would also recommend Win-Amp with the caveat that it does not resize too well for high-resolution displays. By any standards, its footprints are small, and can be made smaller in terms of RAM or CPU consumption.

    I still like to use MusicMatch Jukebox LOL

    I'm comfortable with the interface after using it for years.

    Skins? Plain? Skins just waste resources. Foobar2k is supposed to look plain. I really don't see the need for skins, etc. in media players. Foobar2k, might not look pretty, but it does what it is supposed to and it does it well.
