  1. Quick question for my first post.

Am i missing an important step in obtaining reasonable quality ? I have seen Sizzle being used between the extraction and burning. Want to make sure i am off to a proper start.

MTR (if needed) Toast 7 to burn. onto sony DVD+RW (Best media?)

The forums have been great. A real education.

    Thank You,

    Rich

    pretty much you got it.
    Many of us prefer:
    MTR -->DVD2ONEX ( DTOX)--> Toast,
but you can go the way you suggested.

Check the DVD Media link on the left to see if Sony is
good media. I personally don't use them
( they have been crap in the past for me,
    much like Memorex).
TDK, Apple, Taiyo Uden gets my nod.

DVD2OneX can be used to fit dual-layer DVD content to a single layer disc instead of using Toast 7's fit-to-disc compression feature. Personally, Toast 7's compression meets my needs.

terryj mentions the DVD Media link here at videohelp.com. When you insert DVD Media in your Mac you can use Toast 7's Disc Info... command to obtain a description on that media along with a link to the videohelp user reports. I'm using Verbatim media most of the time.

    Fro, really?
Most reviews of Verbatim's 16x media have been CRAPOLA.
Are you using 16x Verbatims, DL's, or 8x Movie Branded
    Verbatims?

Curious, becasue the Taiyo Udens are running low, and my
local choices are slim ( most everyone bought up TDK
supply over the Holiday. Both Target and Walmart are out.)

Here are the videohelp comments on the Verbatim 4.7 GB DVD-R's I bought at Office Depot in a 100 spindle:
    https://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia.php?dvdmediadvdridsearch=MCC%2003RG20%20%20

My LaCie drive supports 16X burning and my Superdrive supports 8X burn with these and I haven't had any coasters yet.

Previously I was using Made in Japan 8X Maxells, but can't find them anymore.

I know the Taiyo Udens are considered the best but I've never seen any for sale except online.

    Yes I know.
    I usually wait for Supermediastore.com
to put the Taiyo's on sale ( 100 as 2/50spindle cakebox
for $35 shipped was what I paid last time).
They usually have the best price on the
    8x media Taiyo's.

They also run neck and neck with AllMediaoutlet.com
on TDK 16x media ( 100 spindle for $30 shipped
when on sale). *sigh* I would have thought
ONE retailer would have had a decent after xmas media sale......

Yeah this was the link I was reffering to, especially
krimson's post. These are also the ones that Best Buy
had on sale this week in 50pks for $15.

So if burned at 8x, then these Verbatim are ok.
Burning at 12x or even 16x yeilds disaster.
For that, I'd just as soon pick up retail TDK 8x
    (when Target has them, 25 for $15) in a pinch;
since TDK is more reliable at the box, and not
much to be gained from the reports on a -109.

I'll say my prayers tonight, and maybe someone
will have a good media sale Monday.

I'm not sure the 109's firmware does a good job with this media.

    will,
that's what I was thinking on krimson's post.
He's using v. 1.4, and that may be his problem....
similar to what I was experiencing with v.1.17
and the TDK 16x I use. ( FW 1.5.8 is much better now)

I bought Verbatim 16x DVD-R 50-spindle on sale at Office Max recently for $14.99. The info in Toast says made by MCC, Videohelp media page says it's one of the best and they have worked perfectly for me. I'm on the 2nd spindle now. I'm sticking with those after every single Khypermedia disc on the 50-spindle I bought from Office Max failed. No more cheapos for me (the good ones are usually the same sale price as the cheap ones anyway when you can find a good sale)

BTW who makes Taiyo Uden? I haven't seen that brand at the stores around here (Sacramento, CA).

    Taiyo Uden is the manufacturer.

They also manufacture discs for Sony and TDK,
which will be your local brands, but you have to check
the spindle label to make sure it says MADE IN JAPAN
then you know it has an 85% or better chance of being
    made by Taiyo Uden.

otherwise, its CMC or if your lucky TH or TG branded TDK
    manufactured discs.
