  1. I recently purchased this model Toshiba DVD Player because of some good reviews and because it is Progressive Scan, has all the outputs, has a high quality video and audio DAC, and supposedly can play MP3, cd-r, cd-rw, dvd+rw and VCD / XVCD.

I cannot get VCDs to play. When I burn the discs and pop them in the player, it does recognize them as VCDs. The LED switches from DVD to VCD and playback starts. The audio works fine, but the video is very glitchy. Every second or so it stop and pauses and then jumps ahead to where it should have been. It is totally unwatchable.

Has anyone else had this problem? I know the mpg files are vcd compatible, they conform to the standards and roxio easy cd creator says they are fine. Could it be the brand of CD-R / CD-RW that I am using? I have tried memorex 80 min, maxell 74min and for CD-RW i tried a verbatim 650mb. playback was glitchy on all of them. Perhaps it is my software, or the brand of media, or could it be my old burner? I have an old Sony CRX-100E cd burner that i burn at 4x speeds. Or did i just get the one in a million dud player that needs to be replaced?

If anyone has had any luck getting any form of VCD to play please tell me what brand cdr/rw, size, ntsc or pal, 29.97 vs film, video and audio bitrate, what speed you burned at, and what software you used.

This is a long post and now i'm exausted. I'm just pissed cause I thought Toshiba was a good brand high quality player, but my VCDs dont play well.

It's simply a question of finding the right combination of media. Nero seems to work better than EZ CD Creator too.

The Princo's 74 min. 16x CD-R's worked great in my 3109. I expect that it will work in my 4700 as well although I haven't tried it yet. The 3750 is the same as the 4700, just without DVD-audio so if it works in the 4700 I would expect it to work in the 3750. If you look at the DVD Players Compatibility List it might give you some indication of what works and doesn't work for the 3750.
