  1. What is the MOST compatable mp3 encoding setting when encoding into Divx / Xvid using Vdub-mpeg2?

    VBR, CBR, what bitrate? etc/

Lets say the source is movie has AC3 for the audio track. What settings should i use to convert the audio to lame/mp3 for the best compabiblity with stand alone divx/xvid players, and also furture editing?

thank you, sorry for the lame question.

  2. Avoid VBR like it was the black death.... Especially since you mention editing.

    CBR - 128 for space.

    CBR - 256 for quality.

    That's just an opinion though.

I believe it's all dependent upon your player's capabilities. I believe the manual comes right out and states what the upper and lower limits are relative to audio bitrate. Best check the stats for your particular unit.

  5. And of course what's wrong with leaving it AC3?

As soon as you start converting the audio you will be losing quality.

peronally I listen through a good sound system and want it to sound good. If the source is AC3 5.1 then I want it!

    Cheers
