  1. From what I can figure, xvid was the best quality available for native QT editing. But, is the new format codec superior quality?

    Well, quality/size ratio is better, so yeh.

    In any case you wouldn't want to use heavy video compression like MPEG-4 for editing.

    If you are doing film-editing, then you really should use the DV codec. It takes up a lot of hard-drive space, but it will be fast and accurate.
