    Hey guys,

Like many, I have too many VHS tapes to put on DVD and would like to add simple fade ins and fade outs of both the video and audio signal while recording to a JVC M70 DVD-R Recorder. Nothing fancy is required, and would prefer the use of a device supporting S-Video.

I would normally edit the MPEG streams and then reauthor, but I would like to eliminate the need for a computer for such a simple task, thus saving time. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I live in the Toronto area and would also be interested in suggestions regarding any specialized video shops.

    Thank you very much!

One method, perhaps a stop-gap while you find a better solution, would be to use the pass-through on a DV camera (assuming you have DV input on your DVD recorder). Many will take s-video input, and have fade effects that can used when recording or using the pas-through. Not all effects will be availble, but most are so cheesy anyway it's not a loss. Might be worth a look.

Unfortunately the PVGS150 I own doesn't have passthrough, and my JVC M70 DVD Recorder doesn't have a DV Input. Wouldn't this method degrade the VHS signal anyway?

I think I have the PVGS120 and it has pass through. You sure you don't? I can't seem to find my manual either shoot.

  5. Radio Shaft sells a video editing box with fades. I think Best Buy has one too. About $50-$100 if memory serves me. I think you can even set the color of the fades (fade to white for instance).

Yes Bowmah, the PVGS150 doesn't have any video inputs. They took it out of that model but it can be found in the GS250 and 400.

LOL the now defunct Radio Shaft, I'm assuming you mean The Source by Circuit City, correct?

I'll have to check them out this weekend, thanks everyone!

Odd. My 120 does not have dedicated inputs either. I have 1 connection and it is supposed to recognize input and output depending on the situation. I gotta find my manual!

Fry's Electronics had something I think would do the trick. Some kind of editing box that did fades and titling, that kind of stuff. I think it was around $80. I couldn't find it on their website, but I did see it in one of their stores.

The money you'd pay for this task (assuming that's what you're looking to do), would indeed be able to buy you the same equipment that they would use.

    Check this link out....

    Good luck!!
